Michelle owned two very active online astrology communities on Orkut, a social networking site where she wrote on many subjects including world events (India’s and Pakistan’s annual forecasts; bombings in Spain and India, and other news). Her writings on personal and mundane astrology encompassed outer planetary ingresses (including Pluto’s move from Sagittarius to Capricorn), planetary retrogrades including Mercury and the outer planets, and Solar and Lunar Eclipses. As many as 45000 members developed better awareness of astrology in their lives. The communities are now being blended into this site.
Online, she has written on both astrological and non-astrological subjects for a number of sites. In hard copy, Michelle’s articles have appeared in over 125 publications and include Dell Horoscope, Time, Vista, Hispanic, Tennis, Phoenix, Tempe, Dental Economics and Police. She returned to Dell Horoscope, where she had been a cover features writer and monthly columnist for nearly nine years, as a freelance writer in 2014. From 2009 until 2012, she was the astrological health columnist for gay men at GayHealthBlog.com. In 1993, she was editor-in-chief of Dry Heat USA, “the first co-ed, bilingual, multicultural” magazine for teens and young adults. The magazine earned rave reviews in the Arizona press and sold out on the stands within two weeks of publication.
Her first book, Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow: Meeting the Challenge of Our Multicultural America & Beyond, (Caddo Gap Press, co-authored with Paul D. Christiansen, PhD) won the North Carolina Press Club 1997 State Award for General Nonfiction, the North Carolina Press Club 1998 State Award for Speechwriting, and the National Federation of Press Women 1997 Second Place National Award for General Nonfiction. Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow… was also nominated for the National Association for Multicultural Education 1998 Book of the Year Award. The book is used in college and university classrooms around the world, including schools in Japan, Namibia and the United States, and is housed in the State Library of Georgia in the former USSR. She is also on the editorial board of Multicultural Education magazine.
Do you like the site? If you click on “Login,” you can join. It’s free, and you’ll get notified when new feature articles are posted. We’ll also have a newsletter if you’d prefer to subscribe to that. Rest assured, your email address will not be shared with anyone else. You can join in the Communities as discussions are updated over the next several weeks. If you’re a former member of Orkut and either my Astrology or Scorpio! (created 24 Jan 2004) communities, you’ll recognize some old threads (and friends who are already here)–and some new ones. We’d love to have you join in!
